1. What does "royalty-free" mean?

A "royalty-free" license grants you non-restrictive use of an image. The image can be used as many times as required, for a once off fee. The fee is determined based upon image size and quality. 

A royalty-free license remains exclusive to the purchaser. The purchaser can not make the image available for use or download to a third party at a cost or for free. The license can not be passed on or sold. 

2. What does "Exclusive License" mean?

An Exclusive Use license can be requested for an image to eliminate the simultaneous use of an image by competitors. The fee for an exclusive license is determined based upon the specific use of the image. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining the fee including print run, image size, image quality, placement, length of use, and geographic distribution. Please contact Werner for further pricing information regarding ordering an exclusive license for an image. 

3. Can I use the images on the site for free?

Watermarked images on the site can be used free of charge for personal purposes such as desktop backgrounds on request. This will provide you with a low-resolution, watermarked version of the image. Higher resolution, non-watermarked images can be purchased by contacting me.

4. How do I download images?

To download an image for personal purposes: 
1. Right click on the image
2. Select "Save Image As" 
3. Follow the prompts

5. Can I purchase images?

Should you wish to purchase a license to use any image or if you wish to buy photo prints as a gift. Please contact me.

6. How much do images cost?

All prices are listed in South African Rand (ZAR). You can view the prices of royalty fee images on the prices page. Please contact us regarding Exclusive License prices.

7. What's a Certificate of Authenticity?

Each print is issued with a certificate that says the corresponding print is an authentic limited edition. It includes information about the print, including technical specifications, size and a brief photographer statement. 

8. What are photography rates?

The PPSA (Professional Photographers of South Africa) is used as a guide: The Recommended Average Rates are compiled on the basis of realistic parameters and actual cost factors. 

All assignments are conducted according to the Reference Manual for Professional Photography in Southern Africa 

9. I require an image size/resolution which is not specified on the website, what can I do?

Specify your requirements in the "Comments" area of the contact form and we will provide you with a quote.

10. Do we have any standard Terms and Conditions?

Some Standard Terms and Conditions are as follows: 


a) You have the non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sub licensable right to display the digital watermarked image after authorization.

b) You may not alter, manipulate, and crop the digital image provided to you.

c) You may not sub-license, sell, assign, convey, or transfer rights of any images.

d) Your work incorporating images from this website may not be sold, licensed, or distributed without my explicit authorization. 

e) You may not make images from any part of this this website downloadable as single files in any format on the World Wide Web. No hot linking is permitted.

11. Can I purchase prints from overseas? 

Yes, please contact me by using the contact form. Cost will depend on the size of the print and the courier and handling fees to the destination.

12. Copyright Basics

- When it’s created, it’s copyrighted. 

- The photographer or his agent has the exclusive right to exploit the copyright in each image. That right is for the life of the photographer plus 70 years.

- Permission to use a copyrighted photograph for any purpose whatsoever must be obtained in advance in writing to avoid possible violation of the federal law on copyright.

- Any unauthorized use constitutes an infringement.

- Penalties for infringement are monetary and can be severe.

- Combining, altering or scanning photographs or any part thereof, including electronically, is an exclusive right held by the photographer and permission to combine or alter should be obtained in writing prior to any such changes or uses.

- Exceeding the terms of a license has been held to be an infringement. A new license is required prior to additional use.

- An artist’s rendering of a photograph in another medium is a derivative use of an image and does require the written permission of the copyright owner prior to use.

- Re-creating a copyrighted photograph is a derivative use and therefore requires the permission of the copyright holder of the original image.

- Reference use of a photograph or any part thereof requires the permission of the copyright holder.
